Natural Capital: Business leaders’ views

A survey of over 500 Scottish business leaders, carried out by ICAS and the Institute of Directors (IoD) Scotland, in partnership with the Scottish Forum on Natural Capital, revealed a growing sense of urgency to tackle the issue of our depleting natural resources.

  • 81% of those surveyed suggested that collaborative initiatives were needed across different sectors to protect and enhance Scotland’s natural capital.
  • 70% of those surveyed believed that it was government’s responsibility to tackle this issue.
  • The meaning of the term ‘Natural Capital’ was initially unknown to 61% of those surveyed, but once the meaning had been explained, 95% of them appreciated the important relationship between our Natural Capital and society as a whole.

The Scottish Forum on Natural Capital was established during the inaugural World Forum on Natural Capital in Edinburgh in 2013 and ICAS is a founding partner.
