A4S Finance Leaders’ Sustainability Barometer 2024

Are CFOs ready to be sustainable?

Read our latest insights from global CFOs in the second Finance Leaders’ Sustainability Barometer. This report offers an understanding of the attitudes shaping finance leadership today, based on quantitative and qualitative input, and a comparison to previous findings.

The results underline the shift from the ‘why’ to the ‘how’. A large majority (88%) say that it is essential or very important to transform financial decision making, but only 9% say they are able to respond fully with the tools and techniques they have in place.

Another key finding is a shift towards viewing the net zero transition as an opportunity, driven largely by demand from employees and customers. We also uncovered the extent to which CFOs have identified a skills and capability gap and how they are planning to bridge it – only one in ten said their teams were currently ‘fully capable’ when it comes to environmental and social considerations.

The Barometer is based on a global survey of senior finance professionals, conducted by A4S and our CFO Leadership Network, with qualitative input from Board Intelligence who interviewed CFOs.
