Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand: The Quest for Prosperity: Shaping Australia's Future

This paper, commissioned by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, examines Australia’s prosperity over the last decade, positioning it as an important matter for all sectors within an economy, including businesses.

CA Australia and New Zealand partnered with the Legatum Institute, drawing upon work from the Legatum Prosperity Index, in addition to other sources, to examine Australia’s prosperity performance. This Index measures dimensions of prosperity across nine pillars: Economic Quality, Business Environment, Governance, Safety and Security, Personal Freedom, Social Capital, Education, Health and the Natural Environment.

The findings indicate Australia to be performing well, but with a decline since 2007. The paper identifies and examines current strengths and weaknesses, including areas which could be targeted to improve performance.
