ACCA: Risk and the Strategic Role of Leadership

This ACCA research project explores the role of boards in risk management.

It follows from the premise that little is known about how boards integrate risk discussions into their strategic decision making and the skills and experience they have in managing risk to deliver business goals.

The research was based on: 30 interviews with practicing executive and non executive directors from a broad cross section of organisations; two focus groups of risk management professionals; and ACCA’s Global Forums.

It showcases boards’ actions on risk management and the challenges they face in ensuring effectiveness of these activities. It provides insight for boards and executives to reflect on, and learn from, emerging good practice.
