Business schools and academia
“To all those current business school students – and to those who are deciding where to study – ask yourself, is your chosen business school really going to equip you to be the kind of leader that is so badly needed for the next 50 years? Nothing less will do.”
HRH The Prince of Wales - A4S Business School event, 2015
A4S and Business Schools and Academia
A4S collaborates with Business Schools and Universities from around the world, to integrate sustainability into finance and accounting research and education.
For example, the establishment of the A4S International Case competition (A4SICC), developed in partnership with Rotman School of Management and the University of Toronto, and sponsored by Brookfield Asset Management, CPA Canada and Ontario Teacher's Pension Plan.
The A4S International Case Competition provides an opportunity for students from leading Business Schools across the globe to create a team and take part in a challenge to develop new, disruptive business and finance models which solve sustainability challenges and create the businesses of the future.
The role of Business Schools and Academia
Business Schools and Academics have a vital role to play both through their research and their teaching.
Academia can challenge 'business as usual', provide new thinking and new ways of doing things so that organizations can adopt business strategies that meet the needs of the enterprise and its stakeholders today while sustaining the resources, both human and natural, that will be needed in the future.
Business Schools equip the next generation of business leaders with the tools they need to succeed in a changing landscape. Rapid economic, environmental and social change is now shaping the future of this generation. It is therefore essential that students receive the kind of integrated education that they will require to become considered leaders.
Sustainability can no longer be forgotten, or even exist as merely a side subject, but must be embedded throughout the education process and on into further education and professional training.
A4S's Accounting Bodies Network (ABN) members have begun the integration of sustainability into their professional training qualifications and Business Schools can now understand their role in this change.
How Business Schools and Academia can get involved
There are plenty of ways for Business Schools and Academia to get involved in shaping the future of finance, first steps include:
